Above The Clouds

The best birthdays are the ones where Charles takes me out and we drink too much wine, and we're out all night. Charles is terrible at karaoke, but he acts everything out and everyone's laughing so much.

He braved a kiss this year. We'd done some cheesy duet, some soppy love song I can't remember now, and he pulled a plastic rose from a nearby table and presented it to me, with a quick kiss to go with it. He's such a sweetheart. Everyone cheered and I kissed him this time.

I don't like to remember most of my birthdays, though. Sometimes, my parents couldn't stop arguing for one day, just to give me some peace. I remember running away to my best friend's house on my 14th birthday, and we had our own party.

I'd totally given up on birthdays at all by the time I started uni, I didn't even tell Charles at first, but he found out somehow and surprised me. It wasn't a big party, just the two of us. He said he didn't think I'd want a big party anyway, considering I hadn't told him my birthday in the first place. I did let him throw me a party the next year, though. He made birthdays worth having again.
